This pre-comeback era mustache deserved a painting. This is part of a series based on photos taken on the CTA.

I spotted this gentleman on the bus again a year later and awkwardly shared that I’d photographed and painted him unawares. It was a frenzied exchange. Through gesture he explained he was deaf and handed me pen and paper. We communicated quickly as his stop approached. Whether he was pleased with his representation remains a mystery.
